Electronic Sensation DJ GIAA Raises AfroFuturism To Its Rightful Heights On New LP 'Vol.1'

Vol.1

DJ GIAA

Afrofuturism is a indulgently rich sub-section of African culture and, for far too long, it has seldom graced the pop culture main stage with notable exception to Black Panther, of course. But what happens when we move from the silver screen to the studio walls? DJ GIAA, the upcoming anonymous DJ trailblazer, has the answer in his debut project titled Vol.1.

Whilst his music encroaches rarely touched territory - in wider music let alone the electronic genre - he certainly stands tall on the shoulders of giants of before. Mirroring the anonymity of legends like Daft Punk and DeadMau5, DJ GIAA rejects a traditional 'image' in exchange for full focus on his music.

The result is a true wonder. Infusing the new-wave electronic sounds with influences from 1970s Afro Beat from the likes of Fela Kuti and Egypt 80 Band¸DJ GIAA hones a sound unlike any other. The aforementioned nods to Afrofuturism provide the heart for the DJs pulsing beats.

The standout comes in the form of lead track 'By Fire By Force' - a true tour de force in groove with a welcome smattering of brass supplementation that bring the track's head-bobbing groove some real soul. Try and endure it's five-minute runtime without at least tapping your foot I dare you.

Vol.1 is a celebration of heritage, a leap forward in an overlooked genre and, most crucially, an irresistibly good time. As we heard towards the season of sun and serenity - this is truly required listening.
