It's Time To Start Noticing Elle Exxe
Published
Elle Exxe is a name that has been popping up over the internet circa for a while now… Popjustice has already noted her and now it’s time for Subba-Cultcha to do so.
We caught up with her before her “Lost In L.A.” single launch at The Social and we managed to discover that the artist is showing an image of contrast, she was dressed in a fabulous black and white striped attire with a royal blue jacket (a vintage piece owned by her mother). The song is a “big bashing song about a good time had in L.A.”, recorded and set in L.A. itself. What is more… there is an EP coming and it delves on the theme of love and hate.
The opening acts Baby Queens were a surprisingly wonderful R&B/Soul group whose harmonies, trills and blends were killer and gave a wonderful thirty minute set. Enjoyable for the casual listener and ones to look out for. A personal highlight was “Red Light” and forthcoming release “Down By The River”.
Elle soon made her way through the crowd and gave an electrifying set. Her energy on stage was not matched and whilst it was a packed out smaller venue, it made no difference for Elle. Her backing musicians had painted white faces and white bomber jackets and gave a great spectacle. She straddled her way through her set list without a blink or moment of slowing down. She had a fair few folks in the audience that knew beyond the previous single “Lie To Me” and current single “Lost In L.A.” (whose live version got a wonderfully bizarre mash-up with another song).
As the audience sang along with Elle, she left through the crowd in a very dramatic fashion, leaving the crowd foaming for more. She did soon return to the stage to perform another track and it really showed the impression that Elle will have on a larger audience as more music is released. One of the personal highlights for the crowd was the track “Dirty Beat”. It was an upbeat number that had the crowd shaking and dancing wildly throughout.
Elle Exxe is going to be a force to be reckoned with. “Elle” referring to the French pronoun indicating “she”. The surname “Exxe” refers to a variety of things… cleverly the double X is a nod to the Scottish flag, and as Elle is Scottish, it’s a lovely little nod. Think Courtney Love meets Debbie Harry… actually, no… think Elle Exxe.
