Foxes Sets World Record & Standard For What An Outstanding Gig Should Be

Last Wednesday, electro-pop princess Foxes took on the challenge of setting a Guinness World Record in the shape of “most live concerts performed in 12 hours in different cities” in association with Citroen, with all proceeds going towards a charity donation to Trekstock. Having already performed and driven to/from six acoustic sets in cities across the South East of England throughout the day, the big finale was to take place at London’s House of Vans - a super cool venue hidden in the Old Vic Tunnels beneath Waterloo station alongside an indoor skate park.

As Foxes raced towards London from her penultimate show in High Wycombe, we were entertained by two support acts. Each city had different supports, and the positions in London were filled by Concept and Red. The former, a five piece acoustic boyband who caught my attention last summer when they reached the judges houses stage of X Factor, kept the crowd singing along with an impressive string of covers including an awesome version of an Imagine Dragons track. The second support fiery Scottish redhead, aptly named Red, gave us an amazing performance including a mashup of covers and a bunch of great originals, knocking out some killing notes along the way.

Despite being such a short set, it was a fantastic show. Foxes put on a great performance, her vocals never slipping even though she must have been exhausted by this point. There’s nothing I love more than watching a performance where everyone on stage is clearly having a blast, and Foxes show ticked that box right from the word go. The upbeat pop singalongs saw her twirling and skipping around the stage, strutting her stuff and interacting her backing band as well as with the audience. Her acoustic exclusive debut of upcoming single “Body Talk” had her grounded centre stage, waving her hands and arms like a dancer as she indulged us with her powerful, rich vocals.

The real connection between the singer and her band was evident as 10pm approached, marking the twelve hour cut off point which was to make or break getting the world record. Someone on the sidelines had the role of timekeeper, and as the band prepared for the closing track gave Foxes a wave to indicate they had two minutes left. With that, Foxes leapt into action, dashing round the stage as she sang, laughing with the band as she encouraged them to play faster and faster so as to make the time. Even here, her voice remained effortlessly faultless.

And, of course, the night wouldn’t have been complete without the official presentation of the certificate to state that Foxes had indeed managed to create a new world record by performing in seven different cities in the space of twelve hours.

Foxes set was a super fun, energetic burst of pop goodness with flawless vocals even after a day like that. As a big pop fan, I’ve had my fair share of disappointing live performances which showcase just how much post-pro goes into some tracks, but I honestly cannot recommend giving Foxes a chance and seeing her live enough, I was blown away by how impressive she sounded. A big congratulations to her and the band for a successful day!
