Truck is ready to welcome you to Join The Barnival!

Festival season is in full swing and here at Subba-Cultcha we’re getting excited about Truck Festival, one our favourite small UK festivals.

They created a grass roots, family friendly festival that made use of local resources (particularly in regards to food and drink) and focused on good times rather than good profits. It’s no mean feat that 17 years later the festival is not only still going strong but still maintains it’s admirable ethos – they may not be charging £3 a ticket like back in 1998 but the ticket price is nothing in comparison to the big UK festivals at just £74. It has to be said that this year has one of the best, most diverse line ups  in Truck’s history, with performances from the likes of White Lies, The Cribs, Roots Manuva and Gang of Four. 2014 also sees the return of Truck favourites and previous performers Blood Red Shoes, Stornoway, Los Campesinos! and  Dodgy (yes, really – imagine dancing in the sun to that!). Of course, the line up has much, much more to offer (Dan Croll, Peace and Superfood anyone?) – you should definitely read it in full
here.
Once you’ve gotten excited about the line up, look beyond and you’ll see that Truck has much, much more to offer. This is the third year that the festival has been under new management (the folks now responsible also see to the excellent
Y Not Festival
) and they have done an incredible job of embellishing what was already a top-rate event. Extra activities such as an End of Festival Silent Disco
, Truck Bonfire Party
, a Night-time Rave
(featuring Jaguar Skills
and Julio Bashmore
), a Helter Skelter
, a Ferris Wheel
and a Food Festival
mean that even if there’s a gap in your schedule (unlikely) there’s still plenty of fun to be had – just perhaps go on the Helter Skelter before you go to the Food Festival and not the other way around, to avoid barfing. Excitingly, this year will also see a new twist on the much loved Barn Stage (honestly, seeing Future of the Left in there is a musical highlight for me), where we will see the space turned in to a crazy Brazilian carnival. And who better to bring the party on than everybody’s favourite fun-monster, Andrew WK? Honestly, I don’t think I can handle that much fun. We have always loved Truck in the past and we can’t wait to remind ourselves why. Check back after the festival for our full report and festival photos! Truck Festival is held at Hill Farm in Oxford (OX13 6SW) over the 18
th and 19
th of July. Tickets are available from
