SUBBA-CULTCHA.COM SAYS: "In these post-Grimes times, there's a sudden influx of daring and inspired takes on what is pop music. No longer are artists aiming to be the next Adele or an identity-less band that Simon Cowell would manage, instead artists are being braver with their sound and the influences that inform it. Bernard + Edith have created a surreal world in which their sound takes influences from the dance world, the pop world, some esoteric influences and a whole heap of modern production techniques and creates something quite breath-taking. The hooks aren't in your face, but with the use of subtle pitch-shifting and a ghostly amount of reverb it draws something more out of those few melodic notes. It's a grand vision that can hopefully inspire it's own progeny. Keep an eye out for our forthcoming interview and sample their music below."
Manchester based girl-boy duo Bernard + Edith are about to release their 'Poppy' EP on March 31st via Manchester underground art/punk label SWAY Records (MONEY, Kult Country, Naked On Drugs). Bernard + Edith make a dark and surreal synth pop-soul. The EP is comprised of 3 tracks: 'Poppy' is an ominous slow disco tune of warped synth bells and dark electronic pop-soul. 'Eyes On You' is a gorgeously yearning ballad somewhere between London Grammar's melodic confessionals and Grimes' alien soundscapes, while 'Spell On You' is a bluesy Kate Bush-esque psych refrain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JilOCxIjm8
