Hudson Taylor Delight The Crowd With Their Irish Charm
Published
Before their sold out gig at the Cambridge Junction, the Hudson Taylor boys took to busking in the streets between the characterful churches and the bustling shopping centres. It was a nod to their roots, perhaps a moment for grounding themselves before playing to a packed crowd later that night.
Alfie and Harry Hudson Taylor are two brothers who began their musical journey busking on the streets of their home town Dublin, in Ireland, and have come a long way to filling large venues and gracing festival stages.
They are polite and friendly, always welcoming, and their impromptu busking on the streets of Cambridge was typical of their down-to-earth approach to sharing their music. Even with a highly anticipated gig later that night, with a strong crowd of adoring fans chanting their name to come, they still donned their acoustic guitars and played with a guitar case open for unsuspecting pedestrians to chuck coins into. Hudson Taylor see themselves as the people’s band.
Promoting their new album Singing For Strangers, finding the Irish brothers busking low-key seemed apt. The duo would perform anywhere for anyone.
The gig marked their first ever headline tour, ahead of a main support slot for Jake Bugg’s UK arena tour in October later this year. This wasn’t their first appearance in Cambridge, having played the Cambridge Folk Festival in August 2014. They built a strong following with that festival appearance last summer, and those Cambridge fans were in full voice and eager to cheer every Hudson Taylor song from the Junction set.
After blowing the crowd away with their own brand of affable and catchy pop-folk, established fans were left thrilled once again and new fans were made to swoon. It’s safe to say the fan-girl meter went through the roof by the end of the night as these talented and infectious brothers continued to build their fan-base through their fun, engaging live performances and hook heavy folk sing-alongs.
