In recent times my attention has come to a rather interesting two-piece band. After seeing several of their gigs and noticing that each and every one of them always have a ton of heart and soul poured into it amongst other things, it occurs to me that it is time to write them some praise, so here come the exclamation marks…

Once again I find myself within the walls of Dalston’s The Shacklewell Arms where one has seen many a great band before they hit  the big time. This time I’m not here out of the blue, it is another occasion for me choosing to feed my addiction with this Dirty White Fever potion!

Although anything goes in this day and age, there still seems to be hesitation for two-piece bands sometimes - for some reason unbeknownst to me. Well get your head out the fucking stiff-upper-lip-clouds, and get your head filled with this bands glorious noise from another land. Yeah baby! Dirty White Fever! You heard it here first! They pack enough sound to keep you in a drunken frenzy for days, playing fuzzy full-bodied riffs accompanied by the sexiest hip-hop beats and howling vocals to match.

DWF hail from seaside town Brighton - they consist of two delightful humans, one named Dominic Knight (previously in The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster & Bad For Lazarus) and the other, Leon Holder (Jacked In The Box). Blues is a clear influence in their sound, as is full-throttle heavy rock and of course hip-hop. Anyway that’s the history, let’s focus on the present feast in hand, ‘cause god damn it’s a tasty one when you got Dirty White Fever as the main dish.

Upon beginning their short tour through the UK, Belgium and France with fellow rockers Eye Of The Liger, Dirty White Fever had us all to themselves this one fine night at The Shacklewell last week. As per, the band were without a set list (by choice – that’s how they roll) and began to play a high-energy, rambunctious sweat-filled gig. Dominic Knight flailed and gyrated about the stage, whilst singing blood-curdling poetic lines into the microphone, with the master of beats sat behind him cracking out the cheekiest of snare hits and bass drum kicks.

You sure as fuck feel the fire from Dirty White Fever whenever they play. Imagine Captain Beefheart, Tom Waits, The Beastie Boys and Howlin’ Wolf somehow coming together on a drunken night amidst a ton of amplifiers and wine. It would confuse and amuse the bloody hell out of you, as well as bring you close to climax.

Thumbs up to these lovely musicians, keep your eye on them.
