Loic J Tuckey’s latest artistic endeavors capture the raw, untamed spirit of the American West, channeling its essence through both his music and writing. His debut album, Beyond The Sun Road, is a sonic odyssey through the golden age of American road trips, brimming with elements of Americana, alternative rock, blues, folk, and ambient lounge jazz. The album's 12 tracks weave a rich tapestry of influences, spanning from mid-20th century rock and R&B to surf, swampy blues, and psychedelia. These diverse sounds are brought to life by Tuckey’s twangy guitar and versatile voice, which oscillates between traditional bluesy tones and clean, gentle, and gruff undertones.
The creation of, Beyond The Sun Road, was an immersive and authentic journey for Tuckey. Partially written on the highways of America, with lyrics jotted down on diner napkins and melodies recorded on his phone in various motels, the album captures the essence of the great American road trip. The titular track epitomizes this journey, with driving drums and gritty guitar lines symbolizing the endless road. Tuckey’s lyrics reflect his real-life experiences, encapsulating the fleeting moments and vivid scenes that linger long after the journey ends.
Recorded at Sheffield's Hatch Studio with contributions from local musicians like Jim Ghedi and Zebedee Budworth, and mastered at Candyland Studios in Kentucky by Mike Montgomery, the album is a polished and cohesive work of art.
In parallel with his musical pursuits, Tuckey has delved into writing, penning his debut novella, Cowboy Butchers. Drawing inspiration from classic Italian westerns and the Lincolnshire banger, Tuckey’s writing reflects the same rich, cultural tapestry found in his music. With over 15 years of experience in the Sheffield music scene, Tuckey’s diverse musical style and storytelling are informed by a wide range of cultural and artistic influences.
