Not Scientists 'Destroy To Rebuild' Makes It To The UK

In the idyllically grotty setting of the Montague Arms, Not Scientists brought their raucous first UK tour to the capital city.

The French four-piece, champions of playing music as fast as it is loud, both entertained and deafened the crowd that had crammed themselves into the Peckham dive bar perfectly suited for the show.

The no-frills south-London venue was a perfect embodiment of Not Scientists approach to performing, which strips all added-effects from the music and instead leaves only the bare bones. Tracks such as ‘I’m Brainwashing You’ and ‘Window’ (the set’s standout) build nicely and are well structured, and are held together by piercing guitars and thumping bass-lines.

Admittedly the vocals aren’t the strongest, but as with other bands creating a similar noise (think Starry or NOFX), this isn’t always an integral aspect to making good music. It certainly wasn’t to the detriment of the live show, which was as energetic and relentless as they come.

As set-closer ‘Leave Stickers On Our Grave’ echoed around the low-ceilinged room, a number that wouldn’t be out of place on the Tony Hawk Playstation sound-tracks that dominated post-school hours in the noughties, as much sweat was dripping from the walls as it was the crowd. Good rock music isn’t rocket science, but that’s exactly how the band is portraying things. The clue’s in the name.
