North Ship's New Album

"It Looked Like Rain" by North Ship is a bold exploration through diverse realms of sound. The Copenhagen band made up Tom Golzen and Francis Nørgaard Jensen, craft an album that pushes beyond their previous work and it is refreshing to hear!

Opening with the title track, “It Looked Like Rain,” the album sets a moody tone with haunting guitar riffs and atmospheric synths, creating a lush soundscape. Golzen’s evocative vocals add emotional depth to this prelude.

“Green Light,” revisits familiar territory with renewed vigor. This re-recorded track retains its post-punk energy while benefiting from richer production, highlighting North Ship’s growth. Also, songs like “Scent” and “How Like You This?” reveal the experimental quality of the duo. “Scent” weaves intricate guitar layers and ethereal synths into a dreamlike ambiance, contrasting with the raw, driving force of “How Like You This?,” which harks back to their post-punk roots.

“Plastic House,” the second track, builds momentum with a dynamic interplay of programmed beats and live drumming. The song’s anthemic chorus captures the fragility and resilience of human connections through the metaphor of a plastic house.

“Good and Gone” delves into a darker, more contemplative space with its slower tempo and minimalist arrangement. Golzen’s poetic storytelling explores themes of loss, supported by Jensen’s textured percussion.

In “How Like You This?” the penultimate track, Golzen’s subdued vocals and the echoey guitar arrangement create a poignant moment of introspection.

The closing track, “From The Living,” wraps up the album with a soundscape of swirling synths, echoing guitar riffs, and hypnotic rhythms, culminating in a powerful crescendo.
