Sunset Sons Delight At Dingwalls
Published
Remember how Kings of Leon once were, way back and how good they were? Miss them?
Luckily, there is a new four piece on the scene to love. Bearing a striking resemblance and sound to the Nashville chaps - a huge compliment - they’ve been very busy over the past couple of months and now, are we about to be spoilt rotten. After two years ski-ing, snow-boarding and getting EP’s together, they're on the road with a new album and a jaw-dropping live show.
Sunset Sons played Camden’s Dingwalls and reminded everyone very quickly why they are here to stay. Full of big guitar rifts, anthem worthy lyrics and a mesmerised crowd, their loyal fans lapped out the brightest and best from the fellas.

Starting out with 'Blondie of The Fall Line' EP, the boys caught the crowds attention straight away, with no intention of giving it back. Favourites such as "Remember", "Medicine", "She Wants" and "On the Road", had the crowd fist pumping, head banging and singing along with every song. For the entire length of the gig they gave not 100%, but 150%. Rory, Jed, Pete & Rob, have it all covered. Their loud, attention grabbing unique vocals, and backing guitars, and keyboard - personally very happy about this, because NOBODY uses keyboard anymore - shook you from start to finish.
I could praise these boys all day, but when you see something special you just know. After a run of smaller venues it won’t be long before the guys are headlining the likes of Brixton and festivals across the UK. Not long at all.
Don’t believe my enthusiasm? Hear it from the boys themselves…
In the years since THAT gig in the Alps, what has been your highlight, the best gig so far? THAT gig? We played a few. The highlight so far was definitely Reading and Leeds last year. I know that's two gigs. But I can't choose.
So if you could play anywhere, the dream gig, where would it be? We were talking about how nice a Pyramid stage slot at Glastonbury would be one day. We've got a few big singalong tunes I think would work at Glasto!
You've said the snowboarding crowd up in the mountains can get a bit wild. What's the wildest gig you've ever played or been too? Our equipment used to get pushed over all the time up in the mountains. All the shows were pretty mental. Rory's had a mic in the teeth a few times.
There's a lot of hype surrounding your guys love of snowboarding and surfing, so who's the best? Pete is the best at Skating!
What can we expect from the album, which songs are you guys looking forward to playing the most? The album is sounding amazing. We are getting new mixes of the tunes on a daily basis and trying to get it all sounding right. We have a song called 'Lost Company' that I'm looking forward to working Into the live show.
What is your favourite song on the album? All of them! That's like being asked to choose a favourite child. Even though everyone probably has one...
Which gig on this tour can you not wait to play, is there a specific place which brings back good memories, a hometown that you can't wait to get back to? We played in Newcastle on Saturday night. It was amazing. No place like home. Especially if it's the Toon!
Being nominated for Sound of 2015 is huge. Congrats Guys! How have things changed since then and since you first started out? Things have been moving pretty fast for us, there's no denying it. I'm just happy we put the work in gigging the shit out if it before we got signed. The BBC Sound of nomination was a big deal for us. As was the MTV Brand New and the XFM Great X-pectations nods. It's cool to know that other people who know a thing or two about music are backing us.
Who's the worst person on the road, yep, we're talking the messiest, the most annoying - spill all! Rory is a space invader!!! To find out more about Sunset Sons
