As Elephants Are Get London Excited!
Published
‘As Elephants Are’. What kind of name is that? And what does it mean? All I know is that this young band are playing in London and I need to be there. With an avid fan base already and many Tweeting about their excitement on traveling to London to see them, As Elephants Are have caused quite the commotion and they’re only just warming up.
Five young guys from Buckingham play the iconic pub venue The Barfly this evening, walking into the dimly lit room an eager crowd has already gathered, chatters of excitement amongst them and fans wearing the capitalised "AA" T-shirts.
As Elephants Are were more than I expected tonight especially for a young band, however that fact alone meant the energy was at its peak with no stopping or holding back. The percussionist doubled as the keyboardist banging a drum on occasional tracks and the effect illuminated the bands performance making it mighty and more alive.
Though the vocalist was out of breath whilst speaking to the audience he performed excellently with two microphones to create the echoed feed that is used on their tracks. The band as a whole have great chemistry and communication which makes it much more enjoyable as an audience member and ultimately creates a great sound while performing.
As Elephants Are have a brilliant Indie sound that makes for fantastic listening whether through your headphones or live like at the Barfly, I feel I can never get bored of the band’s music. Which is good news since their new EP is out on 17th November.
Their track “Crown” was a favourite of tonight’s gig and no wonder since it has had very generous airtime on XFM and the Huw Stephens show on Radio 1. As Elephants Are is feel good, foot stamping, shoulder swaying music that would be absolutely ideal at a summer festival like Reading and if the guys aren’t on one of those stages next summer then I’ll be demanding why not?! So open your ears to this band and I bet you wont be able to resist the urge to move around either!
