High Praise For Aquilo At St. Pancras Old Church
Published
Hotly-tipped duo Aquilo made their debut headline show in London last week, performing to a civilised audience befitting to the beautiful St. Pancras Old Church venue.
The set was as short and sweet as their UK tour, which has seen the band start to fulfill some of the promise initially shown at their extensive festival playing across the summer.
Waves have been created following ringing endorsements from Zane Lowe and Lily Allen, with a successful spot on Glastonbury’s BBC Introducing stage and soundtrack-presence on Made In Chelsea adding to the excitement surrounding the Lake District pair.
Based around the stunning vocals of Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher, Aquilo’s music combines the intricate drumming of James Blake with The XX’s haunting guitars. The high ceilings of the Old Church venue provided the perfect setting for the show, the choral acoustics reverberating magnificently.
New track ‘Human’ and set-closer ‘You There’ were the evening’s stand outs, the former a recent production from fellow sensitive multi-instrumentalist SOHN.
Collaborations with credible musicians coupled with industry-wide praise means that it surely won’t be long before Aquilo’s next capital venture. I’ll be counting the days.
