Isabel Abbot Bares All On Debut EP Tales

Tales

Isabel Abbot

Birmingham-based artist Isabel Abbott's debut EP 'Tales' packs a punch and a rather soulful one, for that matter.

Across 4 tracks, she tells the painful and provocative story of a broken relationship, delving deeper into her experience and untangling the relationship’s effect on her psyche.

The opening track 'Pretend' makes for an honest and uncompromising start. Highlighting the relationship’s confusing nature the Latin-sounding beach-side pop banger hooks you from the start with its funky rhythm section. It continues to excite as Isabel transitions effortlessly from English to Spanish over each verse and chorus.

Next, 'Lonely Hearts' delivers a change in mood with tantalising neo-soul chords, a prominent brass section, and catchy hook as Isabel addresses boundaries and the fleeting nature of the relationship's stability. This one is for fans of Jorja Smith and Empara Mi!

The third cut, 'Go Away,' takes things down a notch, acting as a downtempo FKA Twigs meets Rosalía-type track incorporating some transcendental vocal chops and a moody lead vocal that come together to create a fresh cut you'll want to keep on repeat!

'Lover,' the EP's finishing track, features three beat switch-ups, a playful piano section and a cool vocal delivery, making it the most creative cut on the EP.

Isabel's songwriting ability shines through, along with her innate creativity to deliver a home run and a blinding finish to this exciting debut EP from one of Birmingham's promising young talents.
