A Real Fantasy Of A Track

Caravan Dream
Multinational rock band Caravan Dream are expats from Lebanon and Ukraine, flung together by chance and circumstance (mainly the pandemic) in Qatar, and who decided to make cathartic music together during Covid lockdown. An album 'Fantasy' is landing later this month. In the meantime, they have released a single of the same name, a song written as an ‘escape’ and a comfort from all that is wrong in the world. And given the chaos around us right now, who wouldn't dig that sentiment?
'Fantasy' opens with very eighties influenced drums and straight into a guitar riff - which in turn leads, briefly, into an almost Bowie-esque 'Low' vibe. (Later we get a very U2-esque guitar solo too.) The vocals are sad and reflective and the lyrics wistful and tell of a Fantasy space or a 'safe haven' away from the harshness and brutality of the world - a serious theme which is, perhaps, a little as odds with the upbeatness of this palatable slice of rock pop.
As the song progresses, we have a vision presented to us of getting old and missing out on peace and light. We are being beckoned. The song ends with the lyrics "Come on and join us..." reaching out to the listener inviting us to some virtual sanctuary. You know something? I'm in! Lord knows, the state the world is in, we could all do with this imaginary 'fantasy' world right now.
'Fantasy' is a pretty pleasant interlude to lose oneself in, as all the scary, crazy ass shizz whirls around us in the terrifying 'real' world. Have a listen and find a safe space. Recommend.
