Mount Forel’s Epic Tale Of Fiery Mistrust!

Mount Forel
A full on wall of sound sets up this release from the first beat and (for me) takes a few listens to truly understand what's going on here. With touches of King Crimson and other prog royalty woven throughout this dense and almost treacle like arrangement, Mount Forel follow their previous single The Hum with more epic intensity on Centralia Sceptics Club - now there’s a title for you!
Apparently there’s a place in America called Centralia that’s had a fire burning underneath it in a coal mine for half a century with toxic fumes seeping through the ground and there’s a handful of the locals who won’t leave as they’re sceptical about the government’s offer to rehouse them, thinking they want to steal their coal!
OK but back to the music… with lead singer Ross Thompson’s spacey vocals sunk deep into the track, it only adds to the epic nature of it all while the rest of the band are right behind him with a heavily saturated and angst ridden performance, featuring Bill Bruford style drumming and big Zeppelin-esque guitar riffs. If only it went on longer, as just when you’re mentally locked into the groove they go and abruptly take it away from you! Some may say that leaves you wanting more but I want it right now ffs! Centralia Sceptics Club is taken from Mount Forel’s forthcoming album due out later this year, so I guess I’ll have to wait till then!
