Ghosts of Our Former Selves
Rising London-based band Ghosts of Our Former Selves have been going from strength to strength, and they are ready to reach new heights and break new ground with the release of their stunning new EP, "Golden".
The band’s frontman, Theo Brehony, recently became a father, and it inspired the release of the new project. Fused with lush strings, powerful vocals and captivating harmonies, the title track and EP opening number “Golden” stands out immediately. It was inspired by Theo’s upbringing in a Greek community as a single child to a single mother and the fact that he was considered to be her “golden boy”. The production builds and builds throughout the song, before culminating in a gospel and rock-infused extravaganza beginning at the 2:59 mark. This last minute of the track is without a doubt the best minute of music you will hear today and really whets the appetite for what is to come on the rest of the project.
After such an impressive opening number, the band strip it all the way back on the next track, which is an acoustic version of “Golden” that gives the song a different flavour. Keeping with the theme of parenthood, the project ends with a stunning cover of Paul Simon’s “Mother and Child Reunion”.
Congratulations to Ghosts of Our Former Selves on delivering such a captivating project. It will be exciting to see what else they have in store for the rest of the year, as they are getting better with each release.
