Zahra EP 'In My Company' On The Benefits Of Alone Time

In My Company

Zahra

You know when you hear a piece of music and assume it’s been created by an established artist who’s been around for at least 10 years, only to discover that it’s the work of a surprisingly young artist? Well, this is one of those situations. Zahra is a singer/songwriter from the United States, and she’s only 20 years old. Yep, 20! She’s barely out of her teen years and she’s already released 2 EPs and 2 singles, all since 2021.

Her new EP ‘in my company’ was released a couple of weeks ago at the start of July, and it truly is a mature, polished body of work. She also seems to have overcome a personal struggle, as her previous EP 'I Feel Weird’ was about how she felt unable to talk about her emotional and mental issues. On the contrast, this new EP is all about embracing being alone and not letting it get you down.

The listener is guided through this 5-track EP by Zahra’s impressively controlled yet raw vocals (with high-pitched twangs every now and then), angelic and hypnotic harmonies, and the main instrument of the EP; the piano. Zahra plays so delicately with such feeling, making softly played piano sound large and powerful because of the preciseness and impact she delivers each chord and note with.
