Bitter Tongues
James Marriott
James Marriott has once again proven that he has every right to stand toe to toe with the best in the music industry. Sleek production with a classic raw sound make this an indie classic.
James first started uploading acoustic covers to YouTube in 2012, and has since gone on to amass millions of followers who tune in daily to his music, comedy & relatable personality. The internet sensation has massively developed since his first release in 2020 by honing in and finding his voice as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. 20+ million streams later, Marriott has put in the time to craft his most important release to date; ‘Bitter Tongues’ EP.
While he is known for his funny content, the Brighton based multidisciplinary creative has developed a significant musical fan base. With influences such as Two Door Cinema Club, Sam Fender and The Strokes, his new EP ‘Bitter Tongues’ with focus single ‘Grapes’, is sure to top his already impressive streaming numbers.
‘Grapes’ is the retrospective recounting of a man who continually gets the timing wrong in his relationship. It’s a fictional reflection of how life can be led astray and sometimes slip away, only for you to realise when it’s too late. The upbeat indie guitar feel to the track juxtaposes the melancholic storyline with class, making it James’ most ambitious outing to date and a classic in the making!
The ‘Bitter Tongues’ EP takes James’ music career up another level. It is different to what came before musically, but also metaphorically in the sense that it’s largely about all forms of relationships within his life as he struggles to maintain relationships with age. “Where Has Everyone Gone?” James asks himself.
