BROKENHEARTSCLUB Are Getting Their 'Party Started' With Their Debut Single

Party Started (Single)

BROKENHEARTSCLUB

I once came across a quote that said something along the lines of “You have to learn the rules to break them”. And this is what BROKENHEARTSCLUB seems to have done to the perfection with their debut single Party Started, released earlier this month.

Composed of ONUR and Harvey Whyte, the band comes from a fairly classical background when it comes to their art, with ONUR scoring a music degree and Harvey being a self-taught pianist who was, at some point, practising up to 8 hours a day. These hours invested in honing their craft allowed them to gain the freedom and skills to completely deconstruct it and play by their own rules.

If you had told me one day that you could blend D12, the Backstreet Boys and BROCKHAMPTON’s universes altogether to create bold and unique sound that still makes sense, I wouldn’t have believed it and yet, I have now other choices but to do so because the two Londoners just did that!

With its distorted intro opening up to a pop punk chorus, Party Started is one of the most interesting “genreless” tracks I’ve heard this year. It has fearless verses with a lot of bite while the production shows a clear pop sensibility with punctuating rock guitars and a Turkish-inspired bridge that adds an unexpected layer to this summer banger.

BROKENHEARTSCLUB undoubtedly knows how to throw a party and trust me, I’ll be there for the next one.
