REVIEW album Blue Kid On The Rock 42

Experimental, Emotive, Exquisite Electronica

42, the new breakthrough from Blue Kid On The Rock, opens sounding like Cocteau Twins on Molly, drawing influences from Stranger Things iconic theme, with a knowing nod to (the criminally underrated) Turtle.

This debut EP is an endearingly chaotic attempt at hip, ethereal, swirling musicianship electronica. It feels like putting on a pair of kaleidoscope glasses and marks a musical turning point for the independent artist, á la the Beatles' White Album (except it lacks the essentials: a naked picture of Yoko Ono).

“42" echoes strains of The Acid-esque attack, with a penchant for distorted guitar and jangly vocal disconnection, while the more EDMish "May Day" returns to form, reminiscent of CRi on nicotine.

However, Blue Kid On The Rock draws chem trails across the sky with "42". But such lack of design has its own charm. The result?
Experimental, emotive, exquisite electronica. Perfect for drunk driving during a thunderstorm at the beach.
