Nothingheads Tune Out And Turn It Up On Their Jukebox / Digging EP

Jukebox / Digging EP
Nothingheads
With a rockabilly guitar riff that leads the way alongside an industrial chug bass and four-to-floor disco beat, this is a record with many parents. It’s like The Moonlandingz went to dinner with The Damned but stopped off for a drinking session with Fat White Family and The Stranglers along the way. Nothing wrong with that though and there are touches of brilliance throughout, with for instance a perfectly placed guitar solo that slides in out of nowhere. A heavily effected vocal makes the lyric hard to decipher but any track with the line “party shoes for the doom blues” is alright by me. Jukebox is the lead track from the Nothingheads’ newest ‘Digging’ EP & the track itself is described by lead singer Rob Fairey as being about “retreating into your own ‘doom cave’, tuning out and turning it up”.
As for the other tracks on the EP, the title track ‘Digging’ keeps the energy up with further garage rock flavours (again excellent guitars), while Mdish (track 2) takes the pace down a peg and sees the EP morph into a more spacey Jah Wobble era Public Image feel. Apparently available on cassette too which is a nice touch - overall a solid release that should do well.
