Hannya White Impresses With Debut Solo EP

No Preview (EP)

Hannya White

London-based North European artist Hannya White has been impressing audiences with her unique electronic music that strikes a perfect balance between the playful and the dystopian. Now she has wrapped several tracks that have received airplay on the likes of Resonance FM, Exile FM and stations in Europe and the USA alongside new compositions on the EP 'No Preview'.

Hannya's music mixes bendy deep-register synth notes, periods of frantic activity, off-kilter drum rhythms and haunting glissandi to create a daunting, yet buoyant soundscape. Against this backdrop we get monotonic chants, barely audible spoken word and deliberately unstable melodies. On ‘Be my friend’ we get barbed sweetness as Hannya invites us to play amid veiled warnings about events within the highrise blocks across the way. ‘For you without love’ reinforces her claim that these tracks are ‘love songs with a little portion of hate’! The title track offers warm, wholesome synths but then it is volatile, full of mind-twisting bends as she half-whispers ‘.. and no-one f***ing cries’. ‘Callin’ is more personal with its repeated phrase of ‘I and me’ while the Bandcamp version has a bonus track that taunts us with its ‘love you’ motif against the emerging background chaos. All in all, ‘No Preview’ offers a refreshingly reference-free journey into Hannya White’s sometimes fun, sometimes very scary sound world. Either way, you will want to come back for more.
