Original Penguin Plugged In Sessions Presents Citizens & Wild Smiles

Swanky menswear clothing brand Original Penguin were ever so lovely to invite Subba-Cultcha to their third Plugged In Session; having previously attended the second Plugged In Session with awesome band Peace, I was very excited.

With the support slot coming from Wild Smiles whom portray a mix between Surf Pop and Grunge Rock and clear influences from Ramones, Nirvana and Beach Boys the boys have hit the nail on the head with the rock era that have inspired them. The energetic performance that caught my attention was held back by a barrier and the atmosphere of The Hospital Club, that didn’t quite fit the attitude of this band. I feel I would have enjoyed the bands performance a whole lot better in a different venue. Nonetheless Original Penguin did a fantastic job of selecting Wild Smiles to be a part of their night and I would definitely see this band again.

Citizens were the headliners for the third Plugged In Session and what a headline act! Bouncy tempos and mature vocals with a hint of 80s pop, Citizens had a very eager and fun fan base where the crowd was dancing and appreciative of their presence. With Lead singer Tom Burke commenting on the barrier between the crowd and band, chants of “F**k the barrier” commenced with fans taking down the barrier. With this brief connection fans engaged more and the band performed confidently but as always the barrier was put back up; the mood remaining high the night ended with smiles and applause for the two great bands that performed.

Once again Original Penguin did not fail in putting on a great night in celebrating the creative relationship of music and fashion, I’m very intrigued and excited to see who will be performing at the fourth  session and hope to be a part of it again.
