JJ Draper Embraces His Inner "Rockstar" And Lets Loose On New Indie Rock Influenced Single 'Part Of A Piece Of This'

Part Of A Piece Of This (Single)

JJ Draper

Three singles, an EP and a cult following later, JJ Draper has certainly made the most of what 2020 has thrown at us. Garnering praise from notable publications including DIY and The Line of Best Fit, as well as Radio 1 DJ legend Huw Stephens, he shows no signs of slowing down, with the release of brand new single ‘part of a piece of this’ paving the way for even more new material to follow this year’s already busy schedule.

Hot off the heels of his latest EP 'the theft and the flight', the indie folk extraordinaire begins to experiment and venture away from his delicate Sufjan Stevens-esque style, embracing his love for indie rock on ‘part of a piece of this’, which features explosive drums, plucky guitars, and a funky keys section.

A direct contrast in tone to his second EP, ‘part of a piece of this’ is still very much Draper to a T. Having played the track live for almost three years, it has become a staple in his setlist and a firm favourite with fans. The single, which offers a refreshing dynamism to Draper’s more laid back, fragile material, takes a similar approach in writing and production, rife with expert craftmanship and meticulously composed layers of sound.

Despite the upbeat rhythm of ‘part of a piece of this’, the track is no less trivial to Draper, retaining the emotional complexity of his other work.
