Nothing More Provide A Stunning Show At Rock City

Nothing more are an exciting heavy metal outfit from Texas that have just emerged onto the big scene, following a major label signing earlier this year. With the release the of their critically acclaimed eponymous album, the band have been seen supporting bands such as Volbeat and Five Finger Death Punch, and now The Pretty Reckless.

Nothing More’s live show is an absolute sight to behold. The band kick things off at Nottingham’s Rock City with "Christ Copyright", a song about ignorance and religion. More importantly, this opening track shows the crowd exactly what Nothing More are about and the heavy metal quartet waste no time displaying both passion and confidence with what they do.

Lead Singer Jonny comes out topless, bashing on an extra set of drums at the front of the stage, whilst the rest of the band play to perfection. Nothing More come prepared with infectious riffs and soaring vocals, making for a truly anthemic act, so much so that a wholly disinterested crowd quickly come around, producing ear curdling screams in response to the band’s incredible performance.

The band’s live show had two obvious highlights which helped to set them apart from a typical heavy metal act. The first of these comes halfway through the set, when the band unleashes a strange apparatus which eventually reveals itself to be a bass guitar holder. Bassist Dan then proceeds to play this bass like a piano, which may or may not be for show, at least initially. As if this wasn’t enough, the band’s guitarist, Mark, joins in on the fun, making for quite the spectacle. Finally, Jonny grabs his drumsticks and adds his own input, making for the world’s most impressive bass solo – guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

The other highlight occurred during the band’s closing song, "Salem". This time, the band opted for a drum solo – one which needs to be seen to be appreciated. Starting off like any other drum solo, Jonny quickly joined in with his drums to add that little bit extra. But of course, this wouldn’t be enough for Nothing More. That’s when Mark and Dan each grab their own drum and add them to the mix. What happens next can’t be described with words, but it showcases the band’s ability to sufficiently entertain as performers without even playing songs.

These two highlights are sure to stick out in the mind of anyone so lucky to witness them, and add to the list of reasons this band has nowhere to go but up in the metal world. If this is what the band can do with a 25 minute opening slot, it should be a magnificent sight to see what they can do with a headline slot or a major festival main stage spot. With the year they’ve had, it shouldn’t be too long to find out.
