The Away Days Are A Turkish Delight
Published
Gig, The Shacklewell Arms, Turkish Band... all my favourite things were condensed into one night and it turned out to be a very good night indeed. With only little knowledge of the Turkish origins of The Away Days I was sceptical but also very excited.
In the hidden, intimate gem of a venue that is The Shacklewell Arms, The Away Days perform a confident, intriguing and attractive set. Obviously with a language barrier lead singer Jon spoke little English, with his soft calm tone as he introduced each song and thanked us for attending. This shy, composed man then burst into a confident, attractive lead singer accompanied by the band as a whole they delivered exceptionally. Performing old tracks from their 2012 EP How Did It All Start to new singles of this year such as “Paris”.
The Away Days are dream Indie Pop where the vocals are calm and the music is experimental dipping into shoe gaze but the electric guitar riffs add edge giving it that Indie push that we all love. The sound The Away Days ultimately create is a summer sound that is addictive; no doubt it would be the icing on the cake to listen to it in the heat of Istanbul. However, it wasn’t until the final moment where I confirmed my love for this new band, performing “Best Rebellious” The Away Days have created a fantastic track that puts you in a trance you don’t want to get out of; with echoes and a beat that gets your feet stamping this particular track is now in my iTunes.
Watching and hearing The Away Days tonight was an absolute delight and I’m very eager to see their next show in London...
