Maverick Sabre Gets His Groove On In Shepherds Bush
Published
I first had the pleasure of hearing Maverick Sabre at V Festival 2013, and I can quite happily say, that his gig at Shepherds Bush was far more enjoyable, most probably due to the lack of festival goers backsides in my face disrupting my view.
As soon as he hit the stage, the atmosphere in the room was uplifted. Whether you wanted to or not, he got you up and dancing from the word go, with new songs such as "Breathe" and "Emotions (Ain’t Nobody)", as well as songs such as "Sometimes", dedicated to the old school fans, and throwing in covers to the songs that influenced him, such as Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”.
By the halfway point, his top was off and guitar was out, with "Run To The Roof", and a pretty black vest number.
It may have been the screams from the group of girls in front of me, or the thick Irish accent that made it, while nice to listen to, hard to understand what he was singing. By this point I did have to move from my quite comfortable place at the bar, due to the frantic hair whipping and dancing of the rest of the audience.
His best moment had to be ‘We used to have it’, accompanied by the audience singing at the top of their voices, which he clearly got very into as he flung his chair around the stage.
Although not a massive fan of Maverick Sabre myself, I found I couldn’t stand still, as he belted out his impressively smooth high notes. And to the die hard fans, such as my friend who queued for far longer then she cares to admit to get a front row spot, it was once again a beautiful, soulful gig.
