Let Nostalgia Kick In With New Planet Case Single ‘Same Old Blood’

Same Old Blood (Single)

Planet Case

The Finnish band just released their new single ‘Same Old Blood’, a musical wave of emotions that will remind you of your teenage years.

European Northern countries are currently blessing us with a handful of great emerging bands at the moment, and Planet Case is definitely one of them. While they’ve been releasing music for only a couple of years, their music videos already have more than 15k views each – a remarkable result for these boys who are still in their early twenties.

Planet Case is a bit of a mix of your favourite pop/rock bands when you were a teen: a nostalgic Coldplay-ish sound with just a pinch of Vamps vibe, all wrapped in a dreamy Owl City colour tone. ‘Same Old Blood’ is the perfect summer vacation tune we all once dreamt to have blasting from our imaginary convertible car speakers while driving down the Gold Coast at sixteen years old, windows rolled down with just the sunset in the horizon. With an opening directly starting with the chorus sung in unison by the band members and a choir, the track is given a sort of epic dimension. They immediately tackle the verses with a melodramatic melody sung by lead-singer Aleksi Yli-Sissala whose clear-as-a-bell-voice can remind of Ryan Tedder’s, vocals of now internationally known band One Republic. While the verses are rather soft and could almost rock you to bed, the choruses are much stronger and impactful – making it hard not to sing-along. The instrumental is also a clever combination of strong electric guitar strumming enforced with synth chords, heightening the epic-effect provided by the singing choir.

‘Same Old Blood’ compiles all the emotions we love about 2000s emerging pop/rock bands: in only three minutes, Planet Case knew how to kindle freedom, youth and positivity – which only makes us want to find out what they’re capable to do with a full album.
