Detroit’s XCVIII take a moment to breathe with Till Next Time, a moody, atmospheric EP that sets the stage for their forthcoming debut album. Blending art-pop nuances with alternative-rock muscle, the four-piece craft a sound that’s both cinematic and raw—somewhere between Radiohead’s introspection and the left-field experimentation of modern artists like Mk.gee. It’s a short release, but one loaded with intent.
Frontman Kevin Joseph and bandmates Tristan Johnson, Alex Ramirez, and Moogie Fawaz built these songs while navigating a heavy chapter: raising funds for their independent label and restaurant, Crazy Charlie’s, and searching for a new member after a major lineup shift. Rather than shy away from the turbulence, the band pressed it into the EP, turning uncertainty into a set of tracks that feel both bruised and hopeful.
That duality is central to their guiding philosophy, “Dreamsreality”—the belief that imagination is a blueprint for rebuilding. On Till Next Time, that idea comes into sharp focus. “It’s about what’s been lost, what remains, and what’s still to come,” they say, and the music reflects exactly that. It’s a promise, a placeholder, and a quiet rallying cry from a band gearing up for the next chapter.
