New Rock Band Release Awesome EP

Far Suns Fall

Far Suns Fall

I first came across Far Suns Fall via a friend on Facebook and really liked the bands logo. This then lead me to listen to the band's music which is available directly from their website via SoundCloud.

It was refreshing that an unsigned band were making their music available to stream for free before the designated release so, I jumped straight in with their self titled EP.

1. Jack Knife

The track opens with some much needed guitar feedback before the entrance of the off-beat drum kick starts the track in full swing. The track itself is your standard full balls to the wall Rock song and would stand up to the likes of Muse, Audioslave and Guns 'n Roses.

The Bass and Guitars work harmoniously throughout the the whole track which drives from start to finish however, what really makes this track stand out is the distorted vocals which bring add a different vibe and is delivered perfectly.

8/10

2. Epoch

Overall, this track is my personal favourite as it is a stand along track from the whole EP. The opening guitars really set an ethereal mood before the opening lines of the vocals and straight away, the song grabs you.

Bass and Drums follow which work really well together throughout the track. However, I would like the Bass to be a bit louder within the mix.

The vocals tell a fantastic story of loss throughout the track and the delivery is perfect. I even shed a tear in some places. The Guitar solo is extremely well executed. You would think that it's Slash shredding away at the end of your ear buds!

10/10

3. The Way You Were

This track appears to be the debut single from the band and again, with some great artwork.

Again, this track takes a slightly different turn with the use of a 12 string acoustic guitar and some amazing volume swells from the Lead Guitarist set another great atmosphere.

The track itself has a great rhythm throughout and the Bass has some great runs throughout the chorus which work really well with the Drums. Vocals are delivered well and I feel that this was a good choice for the bands first single as it encapsulates their sound perfectly.

8/10

4. When The Sun

Now, the first 40 seconds of this track are amazing. It sounds like the Guitar has played a note and had it sustained throughout the intro. The entry of the vocals can only be described as beautiful.

After the ethereal intro the Bass and Drums kick in to bring a totally different vibe to the track than the first section (intro) and takes a more Pop/Rock feel which is good but I feel that it doesn't really fit the purpose of the lyrics. The guitars have a very choppy rhythm which gave me the feel of the aforementioned genre.

Towards the end of the track, it takes another direction again with some really nice Guitar work which sounds very U2 with the addition of some choir vocals in the same vain as 30 Seconds To Mars. Personally, the feel of the Bridge/Outro section should have been the premise for the whole track as it brings all the instruments together.

7/10

This is a great effort from a band that have only been together for a matter of months and I look forward to hear what they come back with next.

Total score 9/10
