Dirty White Fever
I am always in support of a band whose song writing involves praises to the Native American people - a culture, a movement, a family, kept alive (just about) through sheer strength, resilience and unity. Whether it is directly or indirectly, this song embodies words from these people – these people are the wisest of them all.
The more a band of today put out a strong message about our world as it is, the fucking better! According to vocalist and guitarist Dominic Knight, “the song is based on the old Native American proverb of ‘Only when the last tree has died we will realise that we cannot eat money’. It’s a reworking of that idea based on the current climate of environmental destruction and capitalist greed that is plaguing governments and societies the world over, pushing humanity to the brink of what could quite possibly be the very end.”
Any chance that any artist ever has to bring a little attention to our actual reality in which we are destructive beasts throwing bombs at each other, throwing plastic into the oceans and living a greed-filled life, we should see the dark beauty in such bands, bands like Dirty White Fever.
It’s pretty hard to describe why Dirty White Fever are so special because a lot of their wonder comes in the form of an indescribable surge of energy and emotion – things you find it hard to put your finger on or to encapsulate fully. However, the rush of intensity conjured up through this song in particular is incredibly moving.
'Faultlines' takes you through a roller-coaster of emotions. The dark light that hovers over you throughout is dense and impenetrable and yet empowering, whilst the realism that hits you with Dominic Knight’s lyrics make you feel a sense of calmness shrouded in fear in this dark and feverish song. Dom’s howls that build up through the track send shivers down your spine and the seductively tantalising guitar and drums are transfixing.
It’s crazy and magical to see how much sound can come from just two people. The two Brighton residents Dominic Knight and Leon Holder are devoted to their craft wholeheartedly and I hope more of the world starts to find their music, ‘cause it’s fucking brilliant.
Keep your eyes peeled for their debut album and go see them play!
