Rikke Takes A Stand On Alt-Pop Gem

We Collide (Single)

Rikke

In an age where communication channels have never been so ubiquitous, it’s no surprise wires can get crossed at times. Such is the premise of Norwegian artist Rikke’s new single We Collide. An upbeat alt pop gem with an angular melody that’s curiously catchy and definitely sticks in the head - but that’s what pop songs are supposed to do no?

This self-written, self-produced autonomous release on the artist’s own label seems to indicate in the lyric a personality that’s taking their power back and trying to state their case. Something that can bring about profound change if successful, as well as being a fertile base for inspired songwriting. With a sparse musical arrangement that features elements of seductive ear-candy from time to time, the focus is very much set on the vocal – and why not, as its impressive melodic range is used to great effect throughout the track. Confidently sung high melodic lines are juxtaposed with subtle low harmonies creating a great mix of flavours.

Now here’s a tune that straddles effortlessly that gap between indie artist & mainstream pop. Not always an easy balance to get right some might say, but I’m feeling this is well on point and sets up expectations for Rikke’s new album that’s out later this spring – excellent stuff!
