Dan Lowe’s new single "Creatures of the Radio" is a track that feels both timeless and fresh, capturing the raw energy of classic rock.
The song pays tribute to the power of radio, a medium that shaped the musical landscape for generations. Lowe was inspired by a Bruce Springsteen interview where he coined the term “creatures of the radio,” channeling the spirit of rock’s past with a bold, nostalgic song.
Creatures of the Radio is driven by an infectious rhythm and a dynamic instrumental backdrop. With soaring saxophone riffs by Patrick Lamb, the track feels reminiscent of Springsteen’s E Street Band but also hints at the timeless influence of artists like Tom Petty.
Lowe’s vocals, both passionate and gritty, convey a sense of adventure and freedom - just as the song’s theme suggests. It’s a celebration of the era when radio was a doorway to far-off lands and far-reaching dreams.
The production process behind Creatures of the Radio makes the track even more remarkable. Lowe teamed up with producer Dean Baskerville for this project, which took place within a unique “Artist in Residence” format.
Baskerville’s students in a digital audio program played a crucial role in tracking and mixing the song, giving it an authentic, live-recorded feel.
But the success of Creatures of the Radio is only one part of Lowe’s story. Recently, he was selected to advance in Tennessee Songwriters Week after performing at the February 1st qualifying round at Motif on Music Row. Lowe, along with fellow songwriter Trey Calloway, will now perform at the Franklin Theatre on March 1st, where they will compete for a chance to showcase their talents at the Bluebird Cafe, one of Nashville’s most iconic venues.
With an upcoming album, also titled Creatures of the Radio, Lowe’s journey is just beginning—marking the start of what promises to be an exciting year for the artist.
