Jake Sims... 'Long Time Coming'
Published
Jake Sims has large boots to fill... he has been categorised as "The British Eminem" and with an EP on the way, it's time to see if he lives up to the title.
When any member of a boy band goes off in their own direction, it is normal practice for the ex-member to go in a similar sound sonically to that of the boy band - their target audience enjoyed the bands sound so why take a risk and try something new?
This tactic has been avoided by Sims who changed his genre from moody Pop music to a more Hip-Hop inspired sound. This is evident from upbeat rap track 'Long Time Coming' (the EP title and opening track).
He followed suit with a cover of Gym Class Heroes 'Cupid Chokehold' (fun fact - Jake used to cover this track as a busker!). Other tracks performed were original numbers 'Take It All' and 'All For Me', One Direction track 'If I Could Fly', a mash-up of Ed Sheeran's 'Don't' with 'No Diggity' and a re-adaptation of The Weeknd track 'Dark Times'.
Initially, hesitations are abound when a former X-Factor star attempts a career for themselves away from the Syco bubble and for an independent artist, Sims is certainly carving a wave for himself in the industry and it will be interesting to see where his next steps are.
