Daughter, Oh So Perfect In London

Seeing Daughter live in Poland at Opener Festival 3 years ago, I was blown away. I couldn’t quite believe how a soft and delicate band could put a whole tent full of hundreds, possibly thousands, to complete silence. Looking around, people were closing their eyes, swaying and a feeling of content set the tone.

Returning to their home in London I was lucky to catch the band at their sold out show at the Forum in Kentish Town; a venue I forget about but is actually a very nice.

Daughter were punctual as always and respectful as ever. Lead singer Elena being extremely bashful which is a huge contrast to her voice and performance skills, the band as a whole performed excellently and I couldn’t fault anything. Even the crowd were great, smiles filling the venue and a warmth of amity.

Playing a gig and festival are two completely different situations, yes they are both live but the technical side and the crowds are very different. For instance, I love seeing particular bands at gigs as it is more intimate but at festivals I feel some of these attributes are lost.

However, Daughter are not one of those bands. Witnessing them in both environments I felt exactly the same set of content and happy emotions. I feel like Daughter have the perfect image and following, as not many people speak about them but as soon as they announce shows the demand for tickets is insanely high. I feel happy to be a part of that circle that love Daughter as their music is like no other.

Songs like “How” and “Alone/With You” are the perfect example of why Daughter are so great on both albums and in the live setting. Producing music like this and performing them effortlessly and faultlessly is why they sell out shows. So a huge high five to those that see Daughter but please speak up more and if you don’t know Daughter then get to know them!
