Blondes Do Have More Fun
Published
It’s been a diverse week to say the least. I’ve reviewed two very different types of rock and an urban electro soul collective! However, my week started off very differently.
“Go see Nina Nesbitt at the Deaf Institute. It’s the last time you’ll see her play a small venue”, I was advised. How many times have I heard that statement?
However as I approached the venue I was taken aback to see a queue of people down the street. To be honest, it’s the first time I’ve seen that at this venue. And I’m not surprised.
As Nina took to the stage the audience of mainly young girls became excitable and the mood has completely changed. Her first song, a slowed down version of “Noserings and Shoestrings”, seemed to take you by the hand and lead you gently into a wonderful night’s entertainment. What is obvious is that Nina has a vocal range that is truly magnificent.” The Apple Tree” follows - a definite favourite with the audience who sing along to the chorus. Then it’s a slight detour into the unknown with new songs and ones from the “Modern Love” E.P.
Another thing that is instantly noticeable to me is how they have managed to squeeze all the equipment plus band and a mini lightshow on to the compact stage. I’ve seen 4 guys with instruments and amps here, and they looked like they had less room.
“Mr C” makes a refreshing remix appearance in the set and is followed by delightful cover versions of Drakes “Hotline Bling” and “Can’t Feel My Face” by the Weeknd. However the icing on the cake for everyone in the room comes served in the shape of “Stay Out” and her latest “Chewing Gum”.
I urge you to go online and watch some of the acoustic promo’s that are around. Then watch her latest material. I’m pretty convinced my tip off was right. It’s the last time in a small venue for Nina. I’m glad I caught it. Wonder if my contact is any good with the gee gee’s?
