The Flip Phones Point To Destiny

It's a Sign (Single)

The Flip Phones

The Flip Phones have mastered the art of turning the mundane into something magical, and their latest single, "It’s a Sign," proves it.

Inspired by the eccentric Happy Foot/Sad Foot sign in Los Angeles, a rotating podiatry clinic marquee that locals once treated as a daily fortune teller, the song is full of indie-pop whimsy. The jangly guitars and lush melodica lines evoke a sense of playful nostalgia, while the lyrics explore the timeless question of whether our lives are guided by intention or serendipity.

Duo Lindsey and Ryan bring their trademark blend of sophistication and charm.

Lindsey is a classically trained pianist and flutist, and she layers the track beautifully with electric piano and melodica, adding warmth and quirkiness to the sound. Ryan’s jangly guitar riffs are inspired by The Beatles and Blur, and give an indie-rock foundation that’s both upbeat and timeless.

Their vocal interplay - Lindsey’s bright and dynamic delivery paired with Ryan’s steady harmonies - feels effortless.

After the breakup of their previous project, North of Canada, in 2013, Lindsey and Ryan forged a new path, debuting The Flip Phones with their 2022 EP entitled "Better in the Dark".

Known for their storytelling-driven lyrics and layered arrangements, they’ve grown into a staple of the mid-Atlantic music scene. With over 40 live performances at festivals and venues like Jammin Java and Roanoke Festival in the Park, they’ve built a reputation for their dynamic, engaging sets, a spirit that producer Dave Mallen has expertly captured in this single.

As the lead single from their upcoming EP, Spinning Adrift (out spring 2025), "It’s a Sign" offers a tantalizing taste of what’s to come. This indie-pop gem is sure to brighten your day and leave you reaching for the repeat button.
