Blossoms blow away the competition

I first caught the Blossoms back in 2014 in Leeds. I have championed them ever since that first gig. In fact they probably think I'm some kind of stalker... no, honest lads I'm not!!

I've seen then play at many different venues and witnessed two very different performances at Kendal Calling. The first on the main stage, followed by a second, in a very packed log cabin. None of these performances have ever disappointed me.

Fast forward to 2016 and The Blossoms have a new record label, and have just finished recording their debut album. It's gonna be one hell of a year for the Stockport boys.

Tonight they play in a support slot (not many of these left I'm guessing) for the Libertines, at the Manchester Arena
And what a show it is. Right from the opening track "Cut me and I'll Bleed" it's obvious that this crowd love them. And what's not to love? Great tune, excellent melodies, fantastic lyrics. A great opener. Keyboard player Miles really shines on this track.

From then on we're treated to the atmospheric "Smoke", the heart felt "My Favourite Room" and " Blown Rose", a tune that sounds like a familiar favourite from another decade. And maybe that's their secret. Tunes that are new, however they already sound so familiar.

However the next song is a sign of the new Blossoms sound. "At Most a Kiss" is a definite departure from the material previously released.

The excellent "Charlemagne" is up next, swiftly followed by my personal favourite "Blow". To be perfectly honest it was the best performance of the whole night. Keep an eye on the Blossoms in 2016.

The Blossoms formed in 2013, the band consists of frontman Tom Ogden, lead guitarist Josh Dewhurst, bassist Charlie Salt, keyboard-player Myles Kellock, and drummer Joe Donovan.
Catch them on tour throughout February and March
