Light You Up Step Up To Headliners
Published
Being local to where I grew up, I've had the chance to see Light You Up quite a few times over the years, getting support slots for bands such as Roam, The Wonder Years and Four Year Strong, as well as an appearance at Slam Dunk festival 2014. On the 6th of November, I went to the Asylum in Bimingham to see them on their first headline tour ever.
Local boys Beaumont opened the show, providing a decent set to open up the night, hopefully these guys release some more material in the near future as the Pop Punk scene in the Midlands has always been strong and these guys are another great addition to that.
WSTR was the next band up, a band who's recorded output I don't really care for, but seeing them live has really made me rethink my opinion on them. As they began 5 large footballs were released into the crowd which added to the fun atmosphere on top of the sing-alongs and finger-pointing from the many kids in WSTR shirts at the front. I reckon by the end of 2016 we're gonna see WSTR become one of the biggest names in UK Pop Punk.
After a long wait Light You Up finally hit the stage, opening with Foxfire which surprised a lot of people there but got people singing straight from the first second. The band then ploughed through a lot of the material from their record that came out in January including songs such as Monsters and It's About Time. One thing I love about Light You Up's live shows is the interaction from vocalist Tom Napier. Most vocalists who play an instrument at the same time will mostly be static for the whole set but that doesn't stop Napier from getting in everyone's faces, and actually getting over the barrier with everyone during their closer, the massive All We've Ever Known which everyone in that room knew every word to.
Every band put on a great performance tonight and with the inevitable rise of WSTR, this should see Light You Up getting put on some more bigger lineups and hopefully help them break through to the more mainstream side of rock as they would fit there perfectly.

Light You Up have never dissapointed me with a bad performance. The singer is a very nice guy as well.
