Celebrating In Festive Style
Published
2015 was a fantastic year for Subba-Cultcha. We launched a new website, more and more of you became part of the Subba-Cultcha community and on top of that you reviewed more gigs, festivals and new music than ever before!
Without wanting to blow our trumpets too much, we were pretty chuffed with how the last 12 months had gone. So we pondered, how can we say thanks to everyone that’s helped us achieved this? The answer was simple, let’s have a party!!
We wanted to make this a party with a difference and with a little help from our friends at Brooklyn Brewery, Sipsmith and Sonos we wanted to set the bar pretty high!
The confirmations were in and we were over-the-moon to be joined by Xylaroo, Hannah Schneider, ESKA and DJ’s Adam Dunkley and James Orbart. Everything was set for a phenomenal evening!
As the drinks started to flow and the the winners of this year’s Reviewers Awards had been announced (http://www.subba-cultcha.com/reviews/1319) we set about readying ourselves for the upbeat and harmonious tunes of Xylaroo.
Xylaroo (sisters Coco & Holly) have energy in abundance and their sisterly bond makes their songs such as “Sunshine” blossom. It’s impossible not to move to their music and even the most sober and reserved of the audience soon found themselves tapping their toes to the duo’s sensational sounds. Everyone agreed the girls have a very promising and fruitful career ahead of them.
The stage was then set for Danish starlet Hannah Schneider. Hannah had flown in specially for the event from her native Copenhagen, where she has a well-established fan base following the release of her previous albums ‘Me Vs I’ and ‘Red Lines’ along with extensive touring.
Her delicate voice delivers tune after tune of dream like masterpieces, transporting the listener to another realm. “Life is Easy” is a personal highlight and went down just as well with the audience who echoed Hannah’s Danish fan-base… pure excellence!
Next up was 2015 Mercury Prize nominee ESKA… the audience was excited, I was excited, heck, even the bar staff were excited… and then… oh dear.
Even the best parties can be dealt a severe blow by the limits of technology and unfortunately due to problems beyond the Subba-Cultcha teams control ESKA was unable to perform. However, she wasn’t phased and instead stayed around for a few drinks and chatted/posed for photos with the audience.
As a side note I’m a huge fan of ESKA and it’s always a delight to know one of your favourite artists of the year is a genuinely lovely person!
So to the DJs, luckily Adam and James had bought their own gear and were kicking things off to the delight of the EDM fans. I’m always amazed by the skills of fantastic DJs. Anyone can turn up with a laptop, a playlist and some mixing software but true disc jockeys provide more than just music, they provide a spectacle and they can change the atmosphere of the room with the drop of a beat.
Adam and James clearly understand this and managed to get everyone in the room moving… a feat in itself when you’re bound to the tables and unable to move around. Hats off to you chaps… hats off.
The Subba-Cultcha party was our way of saying thanks for all your support throughout 2015. It was a tremendous year for the brand and we hope 2016 is as good if not better!
A massive heartfelt thanks to:
