The One Hundred Smash The Barfly in Camden
Published
The One Hundred have managed to sell out the Barfly in Camden from just releasing one E.P. "Subculture". Which consists of five songs. I'm impressed a band of this size have sold out a 200 capacity venue. Looking around there is a great age range in the pack out Barfly on a Thursday night, which hopefully meant they won over some Mötley Crüe fans when recently supporting them on their very last tour of the UK.
So the night started with the very popular “Kingsmen” this has always been a song loved by the TOH fans and you can tell that from the first note being thrashed out by Tim (Lead Guitarist) and lyrics being screamed out by the Barfly. Next, "Tale Of Two Cities” this is a song that has taken its time to grow on me but live makes it sound even better!
The One Hundred have their debut album coming out next year, no date has been set in stone yet but we should expect it early next year. Tonight the sold out Barfly was able to witness four new songs for the first time live, what a treat! First up was "Monster" and from the off it was a lot heavier then their E.P. It sounds fantastic and seems like it would be a perfect first single off the album.
The music industry is harder than ever to make a living from and that adds even more pressure onto the debut album, this could be the make or break for The One Hundred. Jacob (Lead vocals) is really starting to test his voice in an attempt to create something different and try to stand out from the rest of the crowd.
Back to the kind of old stuff with "Disengage" this song has been doing the rounds with the band over the festival period so a hand full of people of the crowd know it. It seems like it will be part of the new album, as it's a great song that would bridge the gap between "Subculture" and the album.
Back to the every first song on the E.P. "NO FKX", I'd never seen this song performed live so it was a bit like the cherry on top of the cake. Up next "Breed", this song is catchy, heavy and all round The One Hundred summed up in one song. The energy in the room went all the way up to one hundred and the pit started off again.
"You are in for another treat now, two new songs!" said Jacob with the biggest grin on his face. Firstly, "Retreat Retreat" then "Hand of Science". Both songs are good but I think I would have to hear them a few times to get into it a bit, unlike "Monster" which is a little bit easier to listen to for the first time. Back to the old songs now but there not that old are they?
This might even be the first time seeing TOH live for some fans so to see every song performed live was brilliant! "Unleashed" was next on the list and my personal favourite. For the first time tonight, the crowd took over Jacobs mic sang part of "Unleashed" obviously a fan favourite. It has a great mixture of dance, rock and rap. Makes me wonder why the band haven't got more of a mix of fans.
The night was finished off by the only real sing along song "Downfall". I had friends with me who have only recently got into the band and this is the song that caught there eye. So if your trying to get someone listening to The One Hundred, "Downfall" is the tune you need to get into their ears!
The band gave thanks to all the support and people turning out to see them for their first headline show. One thing I have noticed tonight is that The One Hundred have a committed fan base that have turned out in numbers tonight, some coming all the way from Glasgow! Myself, from Birmingham.
They disappeared for an encore, well that didn't really leave the stage, just crouched a bit in the dark. The four piece crouched till the die hard TOH fans started chanting "Encore". They ended the night with a bit of fun by covering Iggy Azalea's "Black Window".
I really do hope more and more people listen to The One Hundred next year when the album is released. I'd love nothing more than one day seeing this band headline a major festival and I believe they can do it! They have a perfect mix of genres in the music they produce so anyone is able to listen to it. Bring on 2016, is it the year for The One Hundred?
