Beartooth @ O2 Academy 2 Birmingham

Beartooth are a band that I discovered earlier this year and have been looking forward to seeing live and moshing to them since the first time I heard them. It seems like a lot of people were like-minded too as the room got packed very quickly…

First up were Blood Youth, a newly formed post-hardcore band from Lincoln. They played songs from their EP “Inside My Head,” which I enjoyed. A combination of screaming in verses, singing in choruses and awesome break downs, especially in the song “Dead Spaces,” put me in the mood ready for Beartooth.

Next was ’68, a 2 piece rock band. Unfortunately whilst can I appreciate the skill of Josh Scogin on the guitar, there was something missing for me. It was lacking the energy that made me want to jump around or sing along.

Finally Beartooth were up and there was no holding back on going straight in with the energy and chaos! After a couple songs I was already worn out after trying to mosh and sing along at the same time, but I was back in the middle for “Between the Lines.” The show carried on in this way, at some points with several smaller mosh pits opening up. My favourite two songs were left until last: “Beaten In Lips” and “Body Bag” as the encore. By this point the majority of the room looked as tired out as I did, but knowing this was the end there was no stopping until the last beat.

Despite the disappointment I had with ’68 I loved the evening and I’m definitely going to go and see Beartooth again, maybe at Download 2016.
