The Subba-Cultcha.com Reviewers Awards

When I was asked to list my top albums of 2015 I paused for a while to try and recall all the great music I’ve listened to during the last 12 months. As I began to ponder I started recalling the music and how I’d discovered the albums… mainly by reading reviews on Subba-Cultcha.

And this got us thinking - we should create a way of celebrating your work for helping us discover some of the best music of 2015.

But where would we start?

Choosing criteria to apply to more than 5,000 reviews we received this year was going to be tough. It had to be relevant to all reviews; gigs, festivals and albums while taking into account the style and individuality of every reviewer who’s posted a review. Not an easy task!

After multiple discussions we decided to keep things very simple by awarding three prizes we felt reflected dedication, passion and creativity.

- Most Active Reviewer
With more than 500 reviewing opportunities to choose from each week on Subba-Cultcha we wanted to reward the user who’s reviewed more music than anyone else in 2015. Having traveled the length and breadth of the UK to cover all manner of gigs and festivals, he even managed to fit in reviewing Duran Duran while on holiday in LA. Congratulations Lawrence Taylor (AKA Eject the Tape Loz).

- Most Shared Review
Creating a great review is not always that easy. When you decide to add further elements in the form of video and audio you take it to another level. And that's when you get lot's of folk wanting to see it! So when we discovered the review which had reached the most people across all social networks was a review of 2,000 Trees festival we wanted to make sure we rewarded this fantastic piece of work. Well done Nathan Roach!

- Most Creative Review
Awarding this prize was slightly more tricky… how do you assess creativity, as surely every review is creative? When we thought back across the year to all the reviews we’d read and the ones which truly stood out we started to narrow the field.

Expressing your enjoyment for a set at Creamfields can take many forms, but an open “love” letter to Fatboy Slim?! This is exactly what Thomas Schofield posted and it got our attention... in fact it got a lot of attention, so much so we judged this was the most creative review we’ve received in 2015. Great work Thomas!

So as we reminisce about an awesome 2015 we’re starting to get really excited for what will hopefully be a phenomenal 2016 for you, for Subba-Cultcha.com and of course… for music.

We'd like to say a massive thanks to everyone who's supported Subba-Cultcha.com this year and we're hoping the next 12 months will be even better!
