Astroid Boys Destroy Hometown Show
Published
It's a Tuesday night and I'm currently standing in a circle watching members of the crowd break dance while waiting for Astroid Boys. AB are on stage kicking their heels waiting to start so the music stops and the night begins. "Posted" was blaring out the speakers and every single person in this tiny Welsh venue was jumping up and down like it was the last song of the night.
Astroid Boys have two EPs under their belt and with the new album coming out next year it's exciting times for the six piece from Cardiff. They played a hand full of songs from the new album, the local crowd loved it and got very involved with all every single song. Talking to the band after recently supporting Deez Nuts in Birmingham, they mentioned how hard they've worked on the first album and think every single song is worthy enough to come out as a single. They plan to release a song from the album every one two months in 2016.
Next up was another hit, "Wake Up" with a fantastic chorus that anyone can sing along to after hearing it once. Benji compares there hometown show to European shows by saying "we can't get away with just talking shit on stage here, you know what we're on about and that's not fun".
Onto the next tune..."Minging", which if you haven't listened to Astroid Boys before then this is the song you need to listen to first. It has everything; bit of rap, touch of grime with metal rifts thrown in for good measure.
It was straight into "Dusted" and what a great song! Fast rapping lyrics means it's very hard to understand what Astroid Boys are saying but after listening to each song about 1,000 times each you can rap along to about half of it.
As they're blasting about "Tayluh Swift", the atmosphere was electric in this small venue in the middle of Cardiff City centre. Overall the night was probably one of the best gigs I have ever been to. Well worth the trip across the border!
On top of releasing their debut album next year the band have recently announced they will be supporting Issues on their UK tour in May. Make sure you get there early to check out Astroid Boys!
