JAWS take a bite in Camden
Published
JAWS, no not the scary shark film; the Birmingham Indie lads who I bet you’re a fan of. Back at my favourite- Barfly in Camden JAWS were headlining a sold out show.
Playing in the cramped and sweaty upstairs, the venue was filled with young girls covered in glitter and boys in skinny jeans. Sounding like a Hadouken Indie reference, well that’s what the JAWS fans appeared like. I felt like I stood out like a sore thumb being only 21 and wearing a leather jacket.
But I guess that’s what happens when a young band create fun, bubbly and creative Indie Pop music that you just want to have a dance to. JAWS debut album “Be Slowly” was released last year and I was playing it non-stop, and I bet that’s what these kids were doing as it was hard to hear lead singer Connor Schofield over the excited crowd. Songs such as “Gold”, “Be Slowly” and oldies “Stay In” were obviously crowd favourites; where I soon found myself acting like these 16 year olds. Dancing with my arms in the air and swinging my head around. At this point I realised, stop being so judgmental and tutting when someone falls onto you from the boisterous crowd and just have a damn good time to some great music no matter what age.
JAWS were fun and amazing as always, having seen them before at Heaven where the crowd was slightly less excited and rather standstill. Here at Barfly the guys put on a great show, mirroring the energy from the crowd and always so thankful. JAWS do this magical trick of making you feel young and forget about the outside world, it’s just you and the music and with tracks like “Swim” it justifies this so easily. Playing new tracks such as “What we haven’t got” which was released this September it gave us insight into new material for their new album which we are eagerly awaiting.
JAWS took a big bite in Camden this evening and it was a fantastic headline show, it’s only onwards and upwards for these guys. Though with an album like “Be Slowly” I’ll be curious to see how they top that one.
