Metal Is Here To Stay

If a certain beer company did metal tours then I’m sure this would be it. Any serious fan would have been mad to miss out on this line up like this. The line-up was a tight affair and ran like this;
6.00-6.30 Sylosis, 6.50-7.20 Children of Bodom, 7.50-9.00 Lamb of God and 9.30-11.00 Megadeth.
And it ran like a dream. By the time I had fought my way through the Manchester traffic Sylosis were well into their forth number. However judging by the crowd reaction they looked and sounded confident enough to return to the Apollo headlining sometime in the near future.
Children of Bodom are up next and gave an equally impressive performance with Alex Laiho showing his full axe wielding talent throughout the set.
Lamb of God, however, was probably one of the most energetic sets I have seen for a long time. Singer Randy Blythe never keeps still. He must have covered miles by the end of the set.
Lamb of Gods set will be reviewed elsewhere on subba-cultcha very soon.
And then it’s Megadeth. And what a show. As soon as the intro music thunders through the speakers and the video screens come alive the crowd are already in a frenzy. In fact before they launch into the first number, ‘Hanger 18’, the beer is flying and people are crowd surfing into the pit.
It’s a blistering, ear ringing set that features some of the bands best tunes during the 14 song performance. ‘She Wolf’, ‘Wake up Dead’, ‘My Darkest Hour’,’ Sweating Bullets’ and ‘Dawn Patrol’ keep the crowd shouting for more. And that’s what they get. A special mention should go to drummer Chris Adler who was also in the chair for the Lamb of God set. God knows where these guys get their energy from.
The set ends as spectacularly as it began. ‘Symphony of Destruction’, ‘Peace sells’ and Holy Wars… The Punishment Due brings a perfect night of metal to an end.
Brilliant stuff…just brilliant.
