80s Legends A Flock Of Seagulls Are BACK

Some Dreams

A Flock Of Seagulls

You can't hear the name A Flock of Seagulls without casting your mind back to the 80s. Echoing synth, riffy guitar work, the hair... But as we close out 2024, the band are back with their first album of new material in almost 30 years - Some Dreams. The question is, what does A Flock of Seagulls look like in 2024?

While the hair and fashion that made for jokes in Friends and Austin Powers may no longer be around, the sound that made the band certainly is, as evidenced on the album's titular single - Some Dreams.

Releasing alongside a music video, Some Dreams comes to life with a charging synth riff that leads into a a clean, reverbed guitar line. The mission statement is clear - the Seagulls are back. The chorus leads out with the instantly iconic lines "Some Dreams Will Last Forever, Some Dreams Never Die", a fitting statement for the group at the precipice of a revival, decades on from their original heyday.

Removed from the aesthetic and presentation of their earlier releases, Some Dreams lives on quality of their electro-pop-rock. Melancholic ballad Him, psychedlic twinged Castles in the Sky, dance beat infused Some Dreams, and guitar led album closer Perfect, pull influences from different eras. The result is an anachronistic album, and in that, Some Dreams finds a timeless quality.

Some Dreams is a welcome addition to the A Flock of Seagulls catalogue that's sure to be a treat for new and returning fans alike.
