Bully proves Punk is still alive in North London

Sitting at an office desk with the rain pouring outside, I sigh on how gloomy this summer day is; then something catches my attention. Not just for a few seconds but I found myself completely stood still. It was Bully’s track “Trying” that my ears clung on to, and ever since then I’ve been mad about them.
Travelling all the way from Nashville I jumped straight at the chance to see them in North London at the venue The Garage, having never been to the main room before I was excited to experience a new venue. Coming on stage to a raucous crowd, the band looked cool and I felt somewhat fortunate to be in the same room as them.
Fronted by Alicia Bognanno, this girl is just too cool performing effortlessly with her long blonde hair flowing against her guitar Alicia is the natural front woman. Going straight in with “I Remember” the vivacious track is energetic and got everyone dancing and loose for the remainder of the gig. Alicia’s scratchy vocals are obviously influenced by the Punk Rock era and is refreshing to hear it in 2015.
With a voice like that and tight band Bully are bringing Punk back and for those longing over the days of Joan Jett and Johnny Rotten but looking for something with a modern take then Bully are the band for you.
Going through their fantastic album “Feels Like” performing tracks like “Milkman” and my fav “Trying” Bully are faultless and I really enjoyed their set.
However with an incredible first album that is “Feels Like” I was highly disappointed and almost angry at The Garage for having such a bad sound system. It felt like the venue had slightly ruined my experienced of Bully of which I was really excited for. But to not end on such a bad note, Bully are a new favourite band of mine and encourage you to listen... now! But maybe not at The Garage.
