Best Coast bring the sunshine vibes to a rainy Brixton

Best Coast are back in the UK with their 3rd album 'California Nights'. This is their major label debut for Harvest Records and tonight they are halfway through their European tour.

Tonight’s support comes from PINS who have just released their 2nd album ‘Wild Nights’ on Bella Union. They are five cool as f*ck girls from Manchester who sound like Hole and The Stooges having a party with a healthy dose of 60’s sounds and sequins thrown in for good measure.

Girls want to be them, boys fancy them, making it a dreamy atmosphere for everyone which perfectly sets the the crowd up for tonight's headliners.

Formed from a love of 1950’s and 1960’s California lo-fi surf punk bands; songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Bethany Consetino wants you to see the world from inside her mind. Her music is heart of sleeve and honest with sun drenched lyrics about the pleasures of California, the displeasures of broken hearts and her cat Mr Snacks.

When Bethany walks on stage with the new five piece band consisting of original guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno and three new session player’s you get the feeling that after signing to a major you are seeing a styled and slightly more grown up less stoned version of Best Coast.

They play a massive set list of new material and hits from all three records. The crowd is a passionate one, dancing, singing to each other and squealing with delight when favourites like ‘The Only Place’, ‘When I’m with you’ and ‘I Don’t Know How' are played and before we know it Bethany is off the stage and back on for the encore.

She sweetly speaks to the crowd for the first time saying “Thank you for being here, we are Best Coast, we are from Los Angeles, this is our last song and I know you know what it is…” before singing the song that gets the biggest response of the night “I Wish You Was My Boyfriend” leaving the crowd feeling on top of the world and the boys saying "we wish you were too".
